Social Backgrounds of the New Testament
"It's really quite an asset to a politician to be a Son of the Divine." - unknown historian, concerning Octavian's new titleThis course is going to be pure fuzzy studies brain candy. I get to work with Wheeler on a group project (yes, I know; but working with Wheeler is much different). I get to read and discuss controversial (and occasionally blasphemous) theories about the New Testament. I get to watch films about the Roman Empire. And I get to write a big, important research paper involving the sociology of the first-century Mediterranean world.
I'm satisfied. This semester has my official stamp of approval.
