Official Reader Survey

I, the Elfin Ethicist, desperately desire feedback.

Now that this weblog is healthy again (rescued from the stagnation of the late Semester of Doom), and now that it has a nice new home with all sorts of modern bloggy appliances, I would like you to participate in improving its content and format. The site is, after all, very much still under development.

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post, answering the following questions however you like.

I would especially like to hear from those readers who visit from time to time but rarely choose to comment. If you enjoy reading this blog at all, please feel free to leave a note.

1. What aspects of this blog do you find most annoying? What topics do I write about too much? Which of my attitudes are the most wrongheaded?

2. What aspects of this blog do you most enjoy? Why do you choose to come back, if you visit often? What topics would you like me to cover more frequently? What do I do especially well?

3. What technical problems or stylistic issues would you like to see resolved? How can I improve the blog's format?

4. If you visit often, what would you be willing to tell me about yourself? What are your interests? What led you to my blog? Do I know you from someplace?

Thank you for your help. I appreciate any comments you can provide.

1. a. Can't think of anything, although sometimes I roll my eyes at your "I'm all alone in with my superior brain and it's hell" routine.
b. Can't think of anything. You write about the things that interest you. That's the point of having a blog.
c. It's not for me to judge if you're wrong or not. You're smarter than I am, for one thing. But I guess the last thing that made me think "Huh?" was your thing about making friends. I kept wondering why you just don't get over yourself. And I'm an introvert! But personalities are personalities. You shouldn't change who you are just to make somebody else more comfortable.

2. a. Your droll wit.
b. I want to see who you're currently skewering. Plus, we're family, so naturally I take interest. (By the way, do you know if any other of our family members peruse your, my, or our blog(s)?
c. Church-type stuff.
d. World history / global politics. You have a unique voice and a perspective unmatched in the blogosphere. The only thing holding you back from wider notice -- if you desire such a thing -- is a lack of prolificity. (Is that a word?)

3. Blog format looks fine. The text of the posts is kinda tiny in my browser. Not to mention white against black can be hard on the eyes. I'm an old dude, not one of you young turk college studs whose eyes are sharp from watching girls walk by all day.
That is what you do, right? Please tell me yes.

4. a. I'm a Scorpio who likes long walks on the beach.
b. I think you know my interests.
c. & d. Our fathers are brothers.

I don't like the new blue scheme. The old color seemed to match your tone better. That's all I got.

I'm not aware of any, actually. My dad visited yours at least once or twice, but I don't think he's gone back in a long time.

The horizontal lines on the right-hand column stretch all the way across the page in Mozilla. Just thought you'd like to know. *grin*

This is the first comment I have ever posted on a blog. I read your plea and couldn't resist.

1. * No annoying aspects
* Haven't notice any particular topic overload
* I agree with Jared re: your entry on friendship. I am an introvert, too. Somewhat intellectual. I realize there are people that are smarter than me, and I realize that I am smarter than some people. I feel like on some level I can interact with both without feeling like I am compromising my "essence." So I was suprised to read your remarks.

2. * I enjoy the obvious thought that you put into many of your posts, whether it be about politics or literature.
* The above reason is why I come back to read new posts. I am usually guaranteed an interesting read.
* I would enjoy more coverage on literature. I love the coverage on politics, foreign policy, etc., and the general musings on life.

3. * No comments on technical issues....Format seems fine.

4. * I stumbled upon your blog via a search using my maiden name and was pleasantly surprised.
* My interests include literature (it was my major in college), art, writing, and learning, in general. Someday I will be a librarian.

1. I am frequently busy and when I see a very long post I groan, I'd love to read it but just don't have time right then. I guess I'm more annoyed with life than your blog.
2. I enjoy humor you seem to find in everything. Even the mundane is ironic or ridiculous if viewed in the proper light.
3. The text is rather small on my monitor, but that could just be my monitor size and resolution. (21" 1600x1200)
I liked your old blog's color scheme, this one seems to portray a cold, moon-lit room with ancient stone walls. Through a small crack in the mortar I see two weary eyes peeping out at me. It kinda kills a good mood.
That may be hyperbole, but you get the idea.
4. I am Gargenon, commander of the armies of the north.

This is so great!
1. Really long posts about dry issues. Not that I don't like them, but like David, I usually am just popping through and don't have the time to sit and read alot.
2. There are many on this one. You frequently make me laugh. Especially, when you and the SC all post about similar things in different lights.I enjoy your descriptions of places and of what you are seeing right then. I enjoy your quotes that you find. I even enjoy reading how you see yourself compared to the world around you.
3. I hate black and white text. I loved the blue! Blue anything is better.
4. Our first 'view' of you was on Caleb's blog when you and Anna were joking about you being a perfectionist.
