Or, as Moore put it, "Sweet!"

There's no justice in this world . . . if you're going to beat me, at least wait until I make a pun, instead of beating me for someone else's.

What is this, like the FOURTH time my verb has been misinterpreted?! There is more than one way to beat someone, and in this case I should think it was fairly obvious that I simply one the race to make that particular pun . . . by beating you to it. Gah.
Context, man! Context!

... I simply one the race ....
I must insist upon better spelling than that.

"Context, man! Context!"
There was no context; at least, not an immediate context. With this sort of indirect medium (blogging), you can't make assumptions about context; you have to establish it yourself. I was working within the context of our day-to-day interactions with one another, wherein the response to most puns is a beating (physical or verbal). The fact that three other people interpreted your statement differently than you intended seems to indicate a flaw in your transmission.
For your intended meaning, something like "*beats Martinez to the pun/punch/response/etc*" would have been clearer. You will notice that in the context you wanted, the subject of the verb is followed by a prepositional phrase ("beating you to it"). In what you actually wrote, you neglected this oh-so-important detail, thus giving your comment a very different meaning.
Of course, maybe you intended to have an unclear meaning, in an attempt to produce yet another pun . . .

Oh, and Wilson is absolutely right. You should be ashamed of yourself for using "one" instead of "won." Unless, of course, it was another obscure pun . . .

*takes credit for two more puns*
Yes, Martinez, I have been known to respond to puns in this way in the past. But as I said, you cannot have failed to notice that you had not said or done anything at all pertaining to this particular post by Wilson. I would have absolutely no reason whatsoever to beat you. This alone, I would hope, should have had you searching through alternate definitions for one that MADE SENSE. And that's not even mentioning the fact that I immediately proceeded to make a pun, which presumably I had just beaten YOU for. *sigh* Do I come across as that nonsensical? Really?
And as for Wilson: Quiet, you.

"Do I come across as that nonsensical? Really?"
Oh, you've beaten me for other people's puns before. Not often, but you have. "You were laughing at it" or "It's the spirit of the thing" and other such nonsense. So, yes, at times, you are quite nonsensical. You are One With the Fuzz, remember? :p
