The silent Austenophile majority

Ever notice that any given young female in America has seen the 1995 film version of Pride and Prejudice multiple times?

In addition, ever notice that any given male in America either (a) has never read Jane Austen and hates her, or (b) has read Jane Austen and secretly loves her novels?

That's too bad, too. It's a great movie. Based on the book even, imagine that! I wasn't aware there was a secret male Austen fan base until you caught the quote in my blog. Seveteen points on the brownie scale..surely there is someone else out there brave enough to admit it as well!

umm. maybe i'm not young enough but I have not seen the film version and I was disgusted at having to write a short story my HS senior year in the style of Jane Austen. While I don't loathe her books, I don't enjoy a whole lot either.

My fiancee made me watch that movie over Christmas... it was, um... pointless? At least, that was my general take on it. There wasn't a solid enough conflict to support the story, if I'm remembering my sentiments right. It's like making a movie out of a dysfunctional family reunion.

She, on the other hand, loves it to death.

I started reading the book and got bored. I should probably force myself to read the whole thing since it's a classic and all, but books like "Dracula" and "Les Miserables" are so good that P&P almost seems like a waste of time.
