Developing impressions of my courses
Because I don't have anything else to talk about yet.
Christology got a whole lot more interesting last night. With the glacial introductory material behind us, we plunged into texts by Arius and Athanasius. It took us two hours to make it to Nicea. This gave me an excellent opportunity to commit myself: I will deliver a presentation on Athanasius in early October, right after Barbour presents Arius. (When Barbour speaks, I think I shall heckle him with references to Antichrist and soul-stealing demon preachers of Babylon — touch of realism.)
Greek Manuscripts was also great fun. The material was generally familiar, of course. Papyri, parchments, scrolls, codices, uncials, and minuscules are not exactly new concepts. Palimpsests are a little more exotic. I think we all enjoyed ourselves.
